NEED OF POPULATION PLANNING

with one of the world's highest population growth rate, Pakistan is facing great challenges to achieve goals of population planning. Atcurrent growth rate of about 2.8/ percent annually pakistan' s population will exceed 280 million by the 2020. Pakistan is a developing country and per capita income is under $1000 per year, and economy is growing slowly. Rapid population growth puts great pressure on agricultural land and hinders prospects from economic and social development.  Now our population is nearly 180 million. It means in coming years if our growth rate remains same we will run out of resources to meet the needs of people.  Even as standing now, our cities struggle to accommodate the growing sea of paople that lives in them, and we lack hospitals, school,  roads and even the supplies of water needed to meet the basic needs of our rural population.
We need to accept the fact that population planning has become compelling need, which simply cannot be ignored or shed away any longer. A strong commitment to fertility reduction is needed for effective population planning. It includes effective family planning program , changing social attitudes and improving the status of women. It is essential to raise the living standards and avoid increasing serious problem of rapid population growth.

Sexually Transmitted disease
A Sexually transmitted disease (STD) also known as a Sexually transmitted infection (STI), also known as a Sexually transmitted infection (STI) is an illness that has a significant probability of transmission between humans by means of human sexual behavior.

AIDS, an Example
The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was once throught to only affect a select group of people.  Nowadays,  it is recognized that HIV affects all people from every walk of life regardless of gender. The United Nations AIDS program estimated that , in 2003, there were 40 million people worldwide living with HIV with women accounting for half of these cases.

Mode of Transmission
AIDS is sexually transmitted disease. Its modes of transmission are as follows;
1. Sharing drug needles with an infected person.
2. By sharing razors with infected people.
3. Through immoral sexural behaviour.
4. Through infected mother milk.

Treatment
There is no cure for HIV or AIDS. HIV medications usally include antiviral drugs that are taken to hinder the growth and even kill off part of the HIV cells. Although this HIV/AIDS treatment does not work for everyone,  they can help to keep you healthy and avoid the progression of the infection to AIDS.
Pakistan is the second largest country in south Asia that stands only a few steps behind india and Nepal in terms of HIV epidemic. However , the country still has a window of opportunity as the current status , using the various latest estimates indicate that the HIV prevalence among genral adult population is still below 1/ percent.
According to the latest national HIV estimates there are approximately 97, 400 cases of HIV /AIDS in Pakistan. The national AIDS control program and its provincial units are currently implementing a comprehensive program throughout the country to half the HIV epidemic.

Non-Governmental organisation (ngos)
NGOs serve as members of the provincial HIV/ADS consortium , which has been set up in all the provinces of pakistan to coordinate HIV/AIDS prevention activities , it is belived that they are reaching less 5 percent of the vulnerable population.
